A VERY USEFUL SALVE

i’ve used elixirs of all sorts to "prep" myself for stressful situations—a traumatizing weekly improv class, the dreaded networking event, and worst of all, internet first dates. some might call it a crutch, others could call it a problem, but i just chalk it up to survival.

thai gin gimlets should be enjoyed in the non-judgemental company of guests who appreciate cocktails. it's not recommended as a quick fix for liquid courage.

ingredients

gin
3 limes
1 cucumber
bunch of mint
some ice
4 lemongrass stalks
6 kaffir lime leaves
4 tbsp sugar

directions

  1. place lemongrass, kaffir leaves and sugar in a small pot, cover with ~two inches of water

  2. bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer, occasionally stirring until syrup has reduced by half

  3. strain syrup and place in a small jar to use once cooled

  4. juice lime and cucumber separately and keep refrigerated until cocktail time

  5. in a shaker, add ice and a few sprigs of mint

  6. add two parts gin, two parts cucumber juice, one part syrup and one part lime juice

  7. shake until it feels like you may lose your fingerprints to the stainless steel

  8. strain and pour into coupes and garnish with mint

serve to those valuable individuals who appreciate this kind of attention to detail
